The Andalusian Regional Government announces more aid for modernizing greenhouses in 2011

The Minister of Agriculture for the Andalusian Regional Government, Clara Aguilera, announced a few weeks ago new aid for the modernization of greenhouses in the province of Almería. The Minister stated that the increased budget allocation will be significant, enabling the province to meet its goal of modernizing protected cultivation facilities.

Aguilera explained that “in addition to the annual Order for the modernization of structures, the province of Almería will receive complementary investments from the new aid program for improving productivity in greenhouses, with a total budget of 121 million euros until 2013.” These figures regarding the 2011 budget were announced during a meeting with an irrigation community.

The increase in public investment for modernizing the agricultural sector follows a trend that began months ago, with the primary objective of providing much-needed relief to Almería's struggling agricultural industry. The authorities recognize that, to improve the region's competitiveness, intensive farms need to increase their production levels and maximize energy efficiency to reduce production costs for farmers.
