Typical Christmas fruits and vegetables

In traditional Christmas dishes, the main ingredients are usually meat, fish, and seafood. However, fruits and vegetables also play an important role on Christmas tables. Side dishes, salads, desserts…

Thanks to its flavor, color and appearance, red cabbage is a seasonal product widely used to decorate salads or side dishes.

Another very popular vegetable at the festivals is the white or red cardoon, typical of the Soria region and very common in Aragon and Navarre.

Salads are also a great option as a side dish. There are many types. Leafy salads with spinach, lettuces (iceberg, romaine, rolled lettuce, oak leaf, trocadero, escarole, etc.), watercress, lamb's lettuce, arugula, endive, etc.

And to add color, use tomato, avocado, mango, pomegranate, grapes and even dried fruits such as chestnuts, walnuts, figs, prunes, etc.

Another fruit that's a staple at Christmas dinners and lunches is pineapple, especially in desserts. Both fresh and canned pineapple are popular.

But in Spain, if there is one fruit that triumphs par excellence at the holidays, it is grapes for New Year's Eve.
